Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2008

Derek Lam

Critics love Kor and Lam, not so sure about Lim!

The reviews are rolling in. While Michael Kors is receiving praise and kudos, Diane von Furstenburg is blowing peoples mind. Derek Lam, industry darling. Where does that leave Phillip Lim, with lots of mixed reactions.

Marc Jacob Darlings!

The Sway of Purple...

Throw away those dull colors and make sure your ready for Spring 2008. Pretty pastels, bright neons and now purple are rocking the palette, and even the runway. Yeah you heard it, purple. I would have never thought that my favorite color of all time would make such an impact. An impact where designers such as Ralph Lauren, Narciso Rodriguez and Michael Kors made signature designs. Narciso Rodriguez's neutral mini frock made an impact but Ralph Lauren took it to another level with his formal royal like, strapless, shiny plum gown. But we can't forget Michael Kors who took his full length design and added a signature elongated cardigan.

Do I hear Spring Fever?

Do you have Spring fever? These models do. Strutting their stuff in designer duds,
these models work the runway in springs hotest fashion. Barely there full length gowns are definitely a fashion do. My favorite fashion trend of all time that will never go out in my book is head scarfs. Whether its designer or home made, scarfs are definite do's. Lastley if you havent gotten the bulletin those heavy shoulder bags are out and totes are in.

Fashion week is always so dramatic with all its new colors and designs. What was in last season is out the door the next.

It has always seemed to me like those big puffy dresses or those crazy designs and patterns were made by designers and for designers and their models because I would rather be caught dead than wearing a purple plaid suit.

However, as I grow older I see how those big designers really do set the standard and even though we might not fill our closets with purple, gold or green, whatever color is in this season, the truth is that high fashion has a trickle down effect and it won't be long even if it takes a season or two before we all find ourselves loving purple as the new pink which at one point was the new black.
